Coolskunk on the Podium

Amateur riders Fly'n Ryan Wells and Matt Zacher showed up for their first half mile race on Coolskunk 250's. Ryan had competed at the amateur nationals on 85cc machines and won AMA Grand Championships in both the 85cc mod and 85cc DTX classes as well as took home the prestegious AMA "Youth Dirttracker of the Year" award.  Matt also stepped up to the plate and put in his best finish at the Nationals by taking 2nd place overall in the 125cc mod class in only his 7th time on the bike.

The event is the annual Ohio race put on by "Uncle" Dave Martin and Roeder Harley-Davidson and this weekend the young riders stepped up their game again by racing on 250cc equipment at their first half mile event.  Ryan was riding a Coolskunk CR 250 C&J framer and Matt was out there on the Coolskunk CR 250 DTX bike.  While the track was a bit bumpy with a deep, deep cushion, the boys were able to get it right and take home a couple of podium finishes. Ryan won the 250 class by over a half a lap lead to Matt's strong second place finish. This is a huge accomplishment and both boys did awesome for their first time on the bikes at a big track event.  I addition, Matt rode the 125 class and took a third place finsh.

Also, Tim Wells ran his 65cc bike and was running in second place when on the last lap the bike siezed a piston.  The bike was repaired overnight ready for Sunday's continued amateur racing program.

The evening portion of the event was canceled because of rain and the boys look forward to a shot at both the 250 and open am class on Sunday.  Stay tuned...

Update...races have been canceled for Sunday....Uncle Dave did not keep people hanging on all day trying to see if they could get the track into condition.  He made the call early so racers could get on their way home early.  Thanks Uncle Dave for a great amateur program on Saturday.  The boys all had a great time!
